The Downtown Greenway, a collaborative project of the City of Greensboro and Action Greensboro, is a planned 4-mile walking and biking trail in the heart of Greensboro. The Greenway promotes local economic development, showcases public art, provides transportation alternatives, connects GSO’s trail system and promotes wellness and physical fitness.  

Greenway construction has spanned the terms of five mayors and is projected to cost around $50 million. To date, there are more than $600 million in development plans and in completed projects along the Downtown Greenway. 

Action Greensboro is a nonprofit that champions projects aimed at enhancing the city’s quality of life, civic engagement, and educational advancement and attracting and retaining young people. Comprised of eight Greensboro foundations, Action Greensboro solicits the ideas and concerns of Greensboro’s citizens and leaders in business, higher education and municipal government, and in collaboration with these constituents, works in a variety of ways to strengthen Greensboro’s economy and ensure the continuation of its excellent quality of life. The Cemala Foundation has been a partner of Action Greensboro since 2000.
