Beyond Sports NC provides sports programs to 3rd – 8th grade students in Title I schools. It introduces students to a variety of sports, sports equipment, games, and activities resulting in a new confidence in self and in sports to carry young people into middle school and beyond. Sports, physical activity, movement, and the promotion of health and well-being result in increased school attendance, decreased tardiness, and improved academic participation and performance. Teachers no longer spend their time on discipline during recess but enjoy a break in the day and a time to have fun with their students. College students provide coaching and a connection to college life and their respective backgrounds. Another Beyond Sports program promotes connectivity between police officers and youth in lower-income areas.
Community partners include Guilford County Schools, Backpack Beginnings, Guilford Education Alliance, NCA&T, UNC Greensboro, Greensboro Swarm, NC Fusion, and Dick Sporting Goods. Cemala and other foundations provide financial support.
